Security specialist celebrates its birthday

Satisfied look back and motivated look ahead

Furtwangen, August 01, 2017 – REINER SCT, the specialist for online and offline security from the Black Forest, is celebrating its birthday: The company was founded 20 years ago in Furtwangen.
The comet “Hale-Bopp” is visible to the naked eye for several months; the British return Hong Kong to China; German President Roman Herzog gives his famous “Ruck” speech in Berlin – and at the same time Ernst Reiner GmbH & Co KG and Carsten Sommer found the company REINER SCT in Furtwangen in 1997.

Proud of achievements

It will become part of the approximately 350-strong REINER Group, which has been supplying banks and savings banks with state-of-the-art payment transaction technology for over 100 years.
“The entire workforce is very happy about this milestone birthday and we are proud of what we have created since then,” says Andreas Staiger, Managing Director of REINER SCT.
From the very beginning, REINER SCT has specialized in devices for processing chip cards.
The timing for this was favorable in 1997: the “new market” started on the German stock exchange; ITC picked up speed, websites and e-mails slowly moved into companies.
There were still no smartphones and no Facebook, online banking was in its infancy and issues of data protection and data security were only just emerging.

Once a pioneer – now the market leader

REINER SCT quickly established itself as a pioneer in its field of business.
In the 1990s, the company produced chip card readers for cash and bonus cards, and from 1999, with the cyber Jack®, the first chip card reader for secure online banking, and in 2003 the first tan Jack® – the mother of TAN generators, so to speak.
To date, the Black Forest-based company has sold a good 2 million cyber Jack® devices and 8 million TAN generations.
Today, the term online banking is inextricably linked with REINER SCT – over 11 million users now secure their online banking transactions with devices from REINER SCT.
The first RFID reader was launched in 2010.
Today, REINER SCT is the market leader for TAN generators and chip card readers.
REINER SCT is also rapidly making a name for itself with the time card time recording.
Here, too, development followed the trends – today, the solution can be rented extremely flexibly as “software as a service”, for example, and used on the move via a smartphone app and linked to an access control system.
“Since the mid-2000s, we have seen an increase in security awareness among Internet users, which has supported sales of our devices,” says Staiger.
Among other things, the introduction of the new ID card with the online ID function in 2010 caused a real boom.
“In terms of sales, 2011 was by far the best year in our company’s history,” says Staiger.
There will be a change in management at the beginning of 2012.
Andreas Staiger, the company’s sales manager for many years, replaces co-founder Carsten Sommer as Managing Director.
Klaus Bechtold, who has been with REINER SCT since 1999 and Managing Director since 2001, remains in his position.
REINER SCT’s entrepreneurial goal remains the same after the change: to create high-quality products with high utility value.
In the second decade of the new millennium, innovative solutions for the protection of mobile transactions follow, taking into account the increased mobility of society.
The payment terminal for small retailers and tradespeople who accept inexpensive card payments everywhere is brand new.
REINER SCT products are now also sold via Amazon and six readers (the cyber Jack® RFID basic, standard and comfort, as well as the tan Jack® Bluetooth, optic SR and optic CX) are also very successfully on the shelves in Saturn and Mediamarkt stores throughout Germany. “This is an accolade for us,” says Staiger happily. In addition, there are new markets abroad, where German security technology is enjoying great popularity.
The secret of the Black Forest company’s success: “We observe trends, evaluate their chances of penetration and are often quick to market with the right products. We cooperate regionally and sustainably, produce with high quality and expertise, mostly “made in Germany”, offer customer-oriented and uncomplicated service and are extremely agile due to our size.
In order to remain competitive, our supplier network includes partners from Hamburg, Munich, Portugal and Hong Kong,” emphasizes Staiger.
The company also attaches great importance to cooperating with partners on an equal footing; a special partner program was established in 2012, which has been extremely successful.
REINER SCT products have already won numerous design and brand awards, most recently the Black Forest-based company won the “reddot design award” in 2015 for its multiterminal touch and the tan Jack® Bluetooth and in 2016 the German Brand Award for the summer marketing campaign “REINER SCHUTZ”.
