Furtwangen, March 16, 2009 – As part of the red dot award: product design 2009, the card reader was awarded the “red dot” seal of quality for high design quality by a top-class jury of experts.
This award is only given to particularly creative, innovative and high-quality products.
A total of 3,231 products from 49 nations were judged by the experts this year.
The award ceremony in front of more than 1,000 guests will take place on June 29, 2009 in Essen’s opera house, the Aalto Theater.
The cyberJack® e-com plus is the new premium smart card reader from Reiner SCT.
“We are very proud of this award.
With this card reader, we are addressing customers who place particular value on elegant and ergonomic design with maximum performance,” emphasizes Carsten Sommer, Managing Director of Reiner SCT.
The renowned design company Phoenix is responsible for the design development.
The smart card reader has a large, backlit LC display and an ergonomic keypad.
Awarded the Secoder security certificate, the card reader is suitable for both professional and private use.
It supports all current and future applications such as: Online banking via HBCI or EBICS, Secoder, GeldKarte, youth protection feature, electronic (mass) signature, data encryption, single sign-on, eTicketing, electronic health card, electronic ID card and passport.
The cyberJack® e-com plus can optionally be equipped with an RFID function and can therefore also process contactless ID cards, such as the new electronic ID card (ePA) and contactless credit cards.
The new chip card reader will be available from March 2009.

Award for timeCard Multiterminal

The Reiner SCT time recording solution timeCard Multiterminal was awarded the title “honorable mention” by the expert jury.
With this award, the design experts recognize products that stand out due to particularly successful detailed solutions.
With timeCard Multiterminal, Reiner SCT now also enables small and medium-sized companies to use biometric access control and time recording – and in a prestigious design.
Here too, the design company Phoenix has developed the shape of the new terminal line, which not only secures the access areas to the company, but also enhances them visually.
The timeCard software has been further improved in collaboration with user interface design specialists and all processes have been simplified so that companies of all sizes and from all sectors can use it easily without extensive training.

Indicator of competitiveness

“Products that are successful differ from less successful ones in that they can hold their own in the real world,” says design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award.
“Successful participation in a design competition can be an initial indication of the subsequent commercial success of a product, as it enables a form of objectification of otherwise very subjective design decisions.”
An award in an internationally renowned design competition such as the red dot design award is therefore an important indicator of whether a product has the potential to succeed internationally.
The products submitted for the red dot design award are assessed by an international jury of renowned design experts.
They examine and test the products and assess them according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability, ecological compatibility or self-explanatory quality.
This year, companies from 49 countries submitted a total of 3,231 products to be judged by the jury.

The winning exhibition at the red dot design museum

Together with the other award-winning products, the timeCard e-com plus will be on display from June 30 to July 26, 2009 in the exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2009” in the red dot design museum at the Zeche Zollverein World Cultural Heritage Site.
Afterwards it will be presented in the permanent exhibition of the red dot design museum for at least one year.
With around 1,500 products on more than 4,000 square meters, the red dot design museum houses the largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design worldwide.
