Furtwangen, June 16, 2008 – So-called Trojan horses infect the PC in the background and manipulate online banking transactions without the customer being able to do anything about it.
Reiner SCT provides the necessary security on the home PC: The market leader in chip card readers now offers two new device versions for the innovative chipTAN procedure.
Reiner SCT recently completed the pilot phase in cooperation with the savings banks data center FinanzIT.
The first savings banks are now introducing the system to their customers.
Together with Sparkassen Informatik, the company has also developed a second device version that works with flicker code.
Thanks to the optical interface of the card reader, keystrokes can be transferred directly from the PC screen to the device.

Mobility in home banking

The card readers for the chipTAN procedure are designed for private customers of banks and savings banks who only do home banking and use their mobile banking transactions.
Online banking transactions can be processed securely with the devices from Reiner SCT: both from home and on the move, in the office or in an Internet café.
With the chipTAN procedure, transaction security is completely guaranteed via the banks’ institutional network and their data centers.
No infrastructures outside the banks’ sphere of influence, such as mobile networks, are required.
The compact card readers can be used immediately without installation on the PC.
As the initial response from the test runs with various savings banks in Germany shows, the new chipTAN procedure has met with great acceptance in the market.
The simple operation of the chip card readers is rated positively by customers across the board.
“We assume that chip card technology with chipTAN will soon become widespread,” says Carsten Sommer, Managing Director of Reiner SCT.

Highlight: No double entry thanks to flicker code

The new chipTAN procedure replaces the previous paper TAN list with a device that generates the online banking TAN electronically using the Maestro card.
The user enters their bank details such as recipient account and transfer amount using a small keypad.
The data is automatically included in the TAN generation.
In order to avoid double entry, Reiner SCT offers a card reader with an optical interface as a second variant, with which the keyboard entries can be transferred directly from the PC screen to the device.
All the customer has to do is press the F key and hold the card reader for a few seconds in front of the flashing fields on the screen, the so-called flicker code.
The device then shows the transaction data on the display, which the user releases by pressing “OK”.
By transferring the data to the external device, the banks’ data centers can immediately detect any manipulation by hackers using the TAN and stop processing.
The transaction is completed securely as soon as the user has finally checked and approved the account entries.
This solution means that account numbers or transfer amounts cannot be manipulated from outside. (The text contains approx. 3,677 characters)
