Furtwangen, December 8, 2006 – The new, innovative two-step TAN procedure for more security in online banking was developed by GAD eG, IT service provider for banks.
Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken in the north and west of Germany have been able to offer this system to their customers since November.
In addition to a card reader which, like tanJack® plus, allows two entries via an integrated keypad, the user needs a VR-BankCard with SECCOS chip for SmartTAN plus.
In the first step, the online banking customer enters a bank transfer and executes it.
The bank code and parts of the transaction data (data entered in the order) are displayed on the screen.
The customer then enters the bank code into the tanJack® plus.
The user receives a TAN number linked to this information on the card reader display, which can only release this specific order.
After entering the TAN in the transaction mask of the Internet banking system, the order is placed.
The tanJack® plus can be obtained directly from the Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken.
However, tanJack® plus is not only compatible with the smartTAN plus procedure, but can also be used for SmartTAN, the TAN at the touch of a button.
The device also shows customers how much money they have on their GeldKarte.

Comprehensive benefits for customer and bank

SmartTAN plus is a so-called two-step TAN procedure: i.e. the transaction and the TAN transmission are split into two steps and carried out separately. At the same time, however, a logical link is established between the order entered in online banking and the TAN generated. This means that the TAN can only be used for the corresponding transfer. This gives the customer special protection. This is because a fraudster cannot misuse the TANs that may have been “intercepted” via phishing for an arbitrarily changed or different transfer order. “The modern, secure procedure will also help to increase the number of online banking customers,” says Carsten Sommer, Managing Director of REINER SCT. “Orders for more than 50,000 tanJack® plus had already been placed before the devices could even be delivered.” It is remarkable that the new procedure is already being supported by numerous Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken.” (The text contains approx. 2,628 characters)
