The curve of devices sold for secure online banking is pointing steadily upwards.
Since the mid-2000s, there has been an increased awareness of security among internet users, which has supported sales of the devices.
The introduction of the new ID card with the online ID function at the end of 2010 and the switch to TAN generators in 2011 caused a real boom.
“In terms of sales, 2011 was by far the best year in our company’s history,” says Andreas Staiger, Managing Director of REINER SCT, “This underlines our position as market leader in TAN generators and chip card readers.”

Market potential still high

As expected, the company used the somewhat quieter sales year of 2012 due to the boom year of 2011 to develop innovative solutions for the protection of mobile transactions.
These mobile chip card readers reflect the trend towards increased mobility in society.
They fit in a shirt pocket and secure transactions via tablet, smartphone, etc.

According to a study by the ICT industry association BITKOM e.V., over 28 million Germans currently conduct their banking transactions online.
This means that almost every second German (45%) between the ages of 16 and 74 uses online banking.
According to BITKOM, almost one in five smartphone owners (17%) use their device to check account balances, transfer money or buy securities. That’s almost five million Germans. “These figures suggest that some people who carry out their banking transactions online still do not explicitly protect their data. That’s why we still see a great need for secure readers,” says Staiger.

Unrivaled security

One reason for the success of REINER SCT devices is their unrivaled security.
REINER SCT is the only company to offer a certified comfort reader (class 3 reader).
Currently, the HBCI procedure (“Homebanking Computer Interface”) according to the Secoder standard with chip card reader is considered the most secure procedure.
Successful attacks on this configuration are still unknown.
