The cooperation partners are currently developing the first joint product, “cgToken”. A prototype will enter the pilot phase with selected users this summer. cgToken is the size of a key fob and, in combination with a mobile device, secures companies’ critical infrastructures. The tiny device is designed for all smartphones or tablet PCs that do not have an NFC interface or SD card slot. The token provides both and thus enables contactless access control or mobile payment processes, for example. The cgToken has its own SIM card slot, a Bluetooth module and an NFC interface. This new development makes it possible for the first time to use certgate smartcard technology across platforms and also in mobile devices without microSD support. The partners are thus creating innovative platform-independent hardware security for e-mails, PKI use, mobile payment and time and access solutions. Only recently, the BSI project “SiMKo3” clearly demonstrated that hardware is irreplaceable for security. However, hardware-based “secure elements” cannot be used on some mobile devices that are very popular with end customers. “We are now closing this gap with cgToken,” explains Helmut Friedel, CEO of certgate and initiator of the collaboration. Klaus Bechtold, Managing Director of REINER SCT, adds: “For the first time, we are combining smart card technology, NFC and Bluetooth in a tiny device. This is a milestone for REINER SCT.”

cgToken is OTA-capable

Another particularly important feature of cgToken is its OTA (over-the-air) capability.
This means that the Bluetooth token can be configured as required by a central location, such as the company’s IT administration, via an air interface.
This means that new authorizations can be assigned to individual tokens spontaneously and from any location via the mobile network.
According to certgate COO Axel Stett, cgToken will be available as a product in the DACH region from the fall of this year following the pilot phase.
Sales will be extended to the international partner network at the end of the year.
The target customers are all large and medium-sized companies as well as public authorities and organizations that need to manage employee-specific authorizations on a variety of mobile platforms.
